Jacksonville, Florida
A Navy Town |
Jacksonville has two Navy bases that employ almost 50,000 active-duty personnel, reservists, and civilians. Combined, the two bases cover more than 7,000 acres of land. Naval Air Station (NAS) Jacksonville was the birthplace of the Blue Angels, which is the Navy's flight demonstration squadron. Mayport Naval Station is the third largest naval facility in the continental U.S. Its harbor can accommodate up to 35 ships, including two air craft carriers. Also, Kings Bay Submarine Base in St. Marys, Georgia is only a few miles north of Jacksonville.
