Runners' Activities |
With year-round mild temperatures, running is a common sport in Jacksonville. In fact, running guru, Hal Higdon calls Jacksonville "about as close as it gets to heaven for a runner". He even purchased a winter home in Jax to use for his winter training.
Right outside the Hyatt is a 3 mile running loop. Ask at the concierge's desk for an information card about it. The loop will take you along the Northbank Riverwalk and across the Main Street and Acosta bridges.
You can also check out the Run the Planet web site where they have six running routes listed for Jacksonville. For serious runners, the Gate River Run ("Largest 15K in the U.S.") will be held on the morning of Saturday, March 8th. Runners cross two bridges during this race: the Main Street Bridge around mile one and the Hart Bridge around mile eight. With cheering fans and a band at every mile, this has become a Jacksonville premiere event for over thirty years. The Hyatt is a central location for this race, with a statue of a runner commemorating the River Run standing directly outside the Hyatt near the bank of the river. Conference attendees will have a great view of the 10,000 runners running in this race as they run near the hotel.
