Amelia Island and Fernandina Beach, Florida

Nicknamed the "Isle of Eight Flags" because this area was under the rule of eight different flags: Spanish, French, English, Patriot, Green Cross of Florida, Pirate, Confederate, and now the U.S. Pirates are said to have buried treasure on this island and although it is described to be "beneath an oak that is pierced by a hanging chain", the treasure has never been found! The Amelia Island Plantation and the Ritz Carlton, Amelia Island are both world-class resorts in this area. Additionally, there are several Bed and Breakfasts and Inns located directly on the beach. Fernandina is known as the birthplace of the modern shrimping business and fresh shrimp is always on the menu at the local restaurants.

Founded in 1565, St. Augustine is the oldest city in the United States. For more modern sites, there is also a Premium Outlet mall.
