Research and Publications in Psychology and Law

One goal of AP-LS is advancing the contributions of psychology to the understanding of law and legal institutions through basic and applied research.  Through various publications, AP-LS also informs the psychological and legal communities and the general public of current research, educational, and service activities in the field of psychology and law. This page summarizes our ongoing research and publication activities.

Conferences

The 2010 AP-LS Conference will take place on March 18-20, 2010 at the Westin Bayshore in Vancouver, Canada.   More information about the conference can be found on this Web page (developed by the Conference Chairs). 

The 2010 APA Convention in San Diego, CA, from August 12-15, 2010, will feature programming on psychology and law, scheduled by AP-LS (Division 41 of APA). Monitor the APA website at www.apa.org/convention for further information and the 2010 “Call for Programs”. The deadline for submitting proposals for the 2010 Convention is Tuesday, December 1, 2009.

The 2011 International Conference for AP-LS, the European Association of Psychology and Law, and the Australian and New Zealand Association of Psychiatry, Psychology and Law is scheduled to be held in Miami, Florida from March 1st to 6th, 2011, at the Miami Regency Hyatt.  Mark your calendars now!

Publications

Law and Human Behavior: The official journal of the American Psychology-Law Society (AP-LS)/Division 41 of the American Psychological Association (APA) is Law and Human Behavior, published by Springer.  To access the Springer web site for Law and Human Behavior, click here.  You may access further information about the journal, including a letter from the Editor, on this Web page.

AP-LS Newsletter:: The Society publishes a newsletter three times each year, informing members of Society activities and news, summarizing important recent legal cases and research publications, and highlighting new and emerging topics relevant to lawyers and psychologists.  The most recent newsletter (Summer 2009) is now available.  The Newsletter Archive collects all previous newsletters. AP-LS Book Series: AP-LS sponsors a book series, edited by Ronald Roesch and published by Oxford University Press.  One of the Society's goals is educating the psychology and legal professions and the general public about important developments in the field of psychology and law. The focus of the book series reflects the diversity of the field of psychology and law as we will publish books on a broad range of topics. Through December 31, 2009, AP-LS Members are eligible for a 20% discount on all books published by Guilford Press.  In order to receive this discount, Members should log in to their account (through the Members link in the header above), and then click on the "Guilford Discount" link on the left side of the page.

Grants & Funding

AP-LS Grants in Aid: The Division 41 Grants-in-Aid Committee considers proposals for small grants (maximum of $750) to support empirical graduate research that addresses psycholegal issues. The award is limited to graduate students who are student affiliate members of AP-LS.  For more information, click here.

The Diversity in Psychology and Law Research Awards support undergraduate and graduate research on issues related to psychology, law, multiculturalism and/or diversity (i.e., research pertaining to psycholegal issues on race, gender, culture, sexual orientation, etc.).
