Mentoring

In 2004, AP-LS formed an ad hoc Mentorship Committee in an effort to reach out to psychologists in the early stages of their careers and to graduate students who plan to enter a career in psychology and law.  The AP-LS Mentorship Committee provides for a variety of different mentoring experiences. More specifically, mentors are available to answer questions through this website (click on the links “Meet Our Mentors” and “ Interesting FAQ’s”), and mentoring is also provided during AP-LS’s annual conferences.

Research, Grants & Funding

AP-LS Grants in Aid: The Division 41 Grants-in-Aid Committee considers proposals for small grants (maximum of $750) to support empirical graduate research that addresses psycholegal issues. The award is limited to graduate students who are student affiliate members of AP-LS.

The AP-LS Dissertation Awards recognize excellent scientific research and scholarship that is relevant to the promotion of the interdisciplinary study of psychology and law. Students who complete dissertations involving basic or applied research in psychology and law, including its application to public policy, are encouraged to apply for these awards. First-, second-, and third-place awards are conferred, and winners will be invited to present their research at the AP-LS Annual Conference.

The AP-LS Web site also maintains a list that describes other selected grants available to graduate students, and awards recognizing graduate students in psychology and/or law.

Funding for Travel to Conferences

  • APS Travel Assistance The Travel Assistance is intended to assist students attending the annual APS convention by defraying the cost of travel.
  • APA Student Travel Awards Annual award program for graduate students who have been accepted to present their research findings at the APA Convention.  Information about the competitive application process becomes available online each fall.
