Postdoctoral Fellowship

Arkansas State Hospital and
Arkansas Division for Behavioral Health Services
Little Rock, AR

The Arkansas State Hospital (ASH) and Arkansas Division for Behavioral Health Services (DBHS) Postdoctoral Fellowship in Forensic Psychology program is now accepting applications for the 2012-2013 year. The fellowship has approval for two full-time postdoctoral fellows, beginning September 1, 2012; and applications are being accepted until May 26, 2012.

The Postdoctoral Fellowship in Forensic Psychology at the Arkansas State Hospital is designed to train clinical psychologists in the specialized area of forensic psychology. The goal of the program is to provide the highest quality didactics and training experiences by offering a year-long combination of seminars (e.g., landmark cases) and forensic evaluations under the supervision of qualified, licensed forensic practitioners. The fellowship provides a unique opportunity for psychology fellows to train alongside licensed psychiatry fellows in UAMS Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship Training Program. The UAMS Forensic Psychiatry Fellowship has been in existence since 2007, and psychology fellows will attend numerous lectures and didactic seminars taught and attended by psychiatry fellows, medical residents, and UAMS Psychiatric Research Institute (PRI) faculty.

ASH is the largest inpatient psychiatric facility in Arkansas, and is comprised of a total of 222 patient beds in three service areas: General Adult, Forensic, and Adolescent. Inpatient forensic evaluations involve questions related to restoration of fitness-to-proceed, criminal responsibility, and dangerousness. ASH also performs a substantial number of court-ordered fitness-to-proceed and mental state at the time of the offense (MSO) evaluations for pre-trial defendants residing in county jails or the community.

For further information about the program see the attached brochure [link opens Word file]. Again, applications are due by May 26, 2012.
