Florida State Hospital is Florida's largest and oldest mental health facility. We are seeking a full-time licensed psychologist to work in a unit that serves forensic and civilly-committed individuals with chronic mental illness. Primary duties include assessing need for continued hospitalization and competency to proceed to trial, writing Court reports, providing psychological assessment, evaluating dangerousness, employing psychosocial and behavioral interventions, consulting with ward staff and unit management, and providing testimony to committing courts. Licensed psychologists also serve as intern and postdoctoral residency supervisors. Psychologists and Post Docs work as members of unit-based interdisciplinary teams. Positions require a doctoral degree from an APA-accredited clinical or counseling program and APA-accredited internship is preferred. Psychologist positions require Florida licensure.
Salaries depend upon training, experience and licensure. As a state employee, you will receive annual leave and sick leave, enrollment in health insurance, and participation in the state retirement system after six years employment. About Florida State Hospital
Florida State Hospital employs 35 doctoral and 11 master's psychology staff, trains up to 7 persons per year in our APA-approved internship, and is a major university externship site. Nearly all emotional and characterological disorders are encountered here. We serve men and women ranging in age from teens to octogenarians who have been committed by state courts as incompetent to proceed to trial, not guilty by reason of insanity, or dangerous to self or others due to mental illness, or are voluntary admissions. Major programming areas include admissions, acute care, forensic, forensic transition, developmental disabilities, gerontology, diversified care, and quarterway house. Florida State Hospital is within commuting distance of Tallahassee (state capitol, two major universities) and 80 miles from Gulf beaches.
