Job Description

This psychologist position is located on Unit 24, a maximum security forensic admissions unit serving men with severe and persistent mental illness. Most persons served on Unit 24 are committed to the hospital as Incompetent to Proceed to trial. Unit 24 also serves a small number of men committed as Not Guilty by Reason of Insanity. Emphasis is on evaluation of competency to proceed and writing Court reports summarizing the forensic opinion. Treatment provided by licensed psychology staff also includes the following: assessment of risk and readiness for release assessment; psychological testing; service on a multi-disciplinary treatment team; individual counseling or crisis management as needed; and possible supervision of practicum students, pre-doctoral interns or post-doctoral residents. Salaries depend upon training, experience and licensure, with usual starting salaries around $66,000 for newly licensed psychologists. As a state employee, you will receive annual leave and sick leave, enrollment in health insurance, and participation in the state retirement system after six years employment.
