Located in beautiful Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada (just outside of Vancouver), the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice invites applications for three (3) full-time faculty positions to begin August 1, 2012 (subject to budgetary approval). The three positions are in Criminological Theory, a Student Success Specialist, and a Generalist.
Located in the heart of the Fraser Valley, the University of the Fraser Valley, with over 16,000 students pursuing more than 100 programs, including two master’s degrees, 15 bachelor’s degrees, majors, minors and extended minors in more than 30 subject areas, and more than a dozen trades and technology programs, is committed to teaching excellence. UFV is a multi-campus institution and according to the Globe and Mail’s annual Canadian University Report was at the top of the list in the small universities category, earning an A grade in most satisfied students, quality of education, and teaching, and an A+ in student-faculty interaction and class size. UFV is also committed to indigenization of the institution.
The School of Criminology and Criminal Justice has approximately 400 program students and offers a B.A. degree in Criminal Justice and Canada’s only Master of Arts in Criminal Justice.
Criminological Theory
A PhD in Criminology, Criminal Justice, or a related discipline is
preferred, but ABD by the starting date is required. Evidence of quality
teaching and research, and a demonstrated ability to teach core curriculum
at the undergraduate and graduate levels, mentor and supervise students, and
help fulfil a broad range of school and university commitments are also
required. Preference will be given to candidates with a demonstrated
expertise in teaching both introductory and advanced courses in
criminological theory.
Student Success Specialist
A PhD in Criminology, Criminal Justice, or a related discipline is
preferred, but applicants with an MA will be considered. The ideal candidate
must have a demonstrated record of excellent teaching at the undergraduate
university level, with experience in teaching academic and professional
development and problem management courses, the ability to mentor and
supervise students, promote University engagement and student success, and
help fulfil a broad range of school and university service commitments. The
successful candidate will be required to teach Crim 129: Academic and
Professional Development and Crim 265: Problem Management Skills for
Criminal Justice Interventions in addition to other undergraduate courses
across the curriculum.
Generalist
A PhD in Criminology, Criminal Justice, or a related discipline is
preferred, but ABD by the starting date is required. Evidence of quality
teaching and research, and a demonstrated ability to teach core curriculum
at the undergraduate and graduate levels, advise and supervise students, and
help fulfil a broad range of school and university commitments are also
required. The area(s) of specialization are open.
