The Iowa Department of Human Services operates a treatment facility for individuals who have been civilly committed as sexually violent predators. It currently houses 53 males in a secure setting. The Civil Commitment Unit for Sexual Offenders (CCUSO) provides state-of-the-art treatment to patients in order to lower their risk of re-offending and to release them from confinement as quickly as possible. CCUSO’s mission is to provide intensive treatment for persons involuntarily committed as sexual offenders who are deemed likely to re-offend. There is a full range of diagnostic, treatment and rehabilitative services focused on addressing the conditions impacting a patient’s likelihood of re-offending.
The Psychologist position is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the CCUSO treatment program in consultation with the Clinical Director, including testing, counseling, behavior modification/management, and psychotherapy. Conducts individual and group treatment for patients on assigned caseload. Performs and/or oversees all psychological testing for patients in the CCUSO program, including cognitive, personality, aptitude and violence/sexual violence risk. Assists Administrator and Clinical Director in establishing treatment program for patients in the transitional phase or moving into the transitional phase. This includes networking with community providers, traveling to assess different communities for transition sites, training potential providers to provide sex offender treatment and providing treatment for CCUSO patients in the transition program.
Qualifications
Graduation from a doctorate degree program with emphasis in psychology or behavior modification/management from an accredited college or university and licensure as a psychologist by the Iowa Board of Psychology Examiners, and experience equal to two years of full-time professional clinical work as a psychologist in an institutional or community mental health, mental retardation, long-term care or corrections program;
OR
graduation from a masters degree program with emphasis in psychology from an accredited college or university and licensure as a psychologist by the Iowa Board of Psychology Examiners, and experience equal to four years of full-time professional clinical work as a psychologist in an institutional or community mental health, mental retardation, long-term care or corrections program.
