Forensic Psychologist
Larned State Hospital in Larned, Kansas is seeking Doctoral level Psychologists and post-doctoral level psychologists. Positions are available on both the Forensic (State Security) Program and Civil (Psychiatric Services) program, and include duties such as forensic evaluation, psychological evaluation, court testimony, leading treatment team meetings, providing therapy, and providing supervision. Requirements for the position include completion of Ph.D. or Psy.D., completion of an internship from APA-accredited program (preferred) or equivalent (APPIC), and eligibility for professional licensure in Kansas. Will consider ABD. The positions include a competitive salary (range from $48,000 to $70,000) and excellent benefits, including an on-site fitness center.
Larned State Hospital is approximately a 460-bed psychiatric facility which has three distinct programs: State Security Program, Sexual Predator Treatment Program, and Psychiatric Services Program. The State Security Program accepts admissions statewide and provides evaluations and treatment to patients who are either criminally committed or transferred from the Kansas Department of Corrections. The Sexual Predator Treatment Program provides treatment to male patients who are civilly committed for treatment as a violent sexual predator and takes admissions from all counties in the state. The Psychiatric Services Program provides treatment to children, adolescents, and adults from Central and Western Kansas. Additionally, Larned State Hospital is a teaching hospital for individuals in training to become nurses, social workers, pharmacists, psychologists and psychiatrists. The hospital offers an AAPIC approved internship for pre-doctoral candidates in psychology.
Larned State Hospital is located on a 78 acre campus at the confluence of the Arkansas and Pawnee Rivers. It is also located on the Santa Fe Trail in Central Kansas and is approximately two hours northwest of Wichita. Denver is approximately five hours to the West and Kansas City is approximately four hours to the East. The Larned area boasts of many historic landmarks and fine museums. Ft. Larned, located six miles west of the city, is the best preserved fort in the state. There is several small community colleges located nearby (e.g., Barton Community College, Hutchinson Community College) and Fort Hays State University is an hour away. The area offers a comparatively low cost of living, excellent schools, a well developed park and recreational system, and a low crime rate.
