Patients come to the program on an involuntary basis, often committed by the courts for evaluation or treatment. SOFS also serves as a statewide treatment facility for persons found not guilty or unable to stand trial by reason of mental illness. Forensic Transition Services (FTS) operates outside of the secure treatment environment, serving people committed as Mentally Ill & Dangerous who have progressed through treatment and been approved for a reduction in custody. FTS provides psychosocial rehabilitation and skill enhancement, in addition to collaborating with community resources for patients’ successful transition and community reintegration.
