Forensic Psychologist

The Forensic Evaluation Service of the South Carolina Dept. of Mental Health has an opening for a forensic psychologist who will plan, direct and coordinate professional psychological services for the high profile Sexually Violent Predator Treatment Program. Duties will include evaluating each civilly committed SVPTP resident annually, preparing a written Annual Treatment Review Summary (ATRS) for each resident and testifying at ATRS hearings when required. The person in this position will also provide training as necessary to SVPTP staff and attend weekly treatment team meetings to provide psychological expertise and guidance in treatment issues. The position has limited supervision and is part of the Forensic Evaluation Service, which has a collegial atmosphere and low staff turnover. The job is located in Columbia, the state capital, which has mild winters, a relatively low cost of living, the University of South Carolina, and a metropolitan population of about 500,000. Applicants must have a doctorate in psychology from a fully accredited program, successfully completed a fully accredited internship, and be licensed (or license-eligible with license obtained by the end of the first year of employment) in South Carolina. Applicants must also have training and experience in the specialty areas of sexual offender risk assessment, evaluation and treatment as well as a thorough knowledge and understanding of the most recent scientific and professional literature and techniques available in the evaluation and treatment of sex offenders. Excellent verbal and written communication skills are also necessary. The salary is commensurate with experience and the position includes a generous state employee benefits package.
