The Texas Juvenile Crime Prevention Center (TJCPC) at Prairie View A&M University in the College of Juvenile Justice and Psychology is seeking applicants for the position of full-time, Research Scientist (non-tenure track staff). This position is responsible for fulfilling legislative mandates regarding research for the TJCPC. Primary duties consist of, but are not limited to, conceptualizing quantitative and qualitative research designs; summarizing, analyzing, and reporting original research findings concerning various juvenile justice issues for dissemination to professional, judicial, and legislative decision-makers; retrieving and using information from the Juvenile Justice and Social Science databases to provide current overviews of various topics concerning the juvenile justice system and the population it serves; preparing and delivering local, national, and international conference presentations; presenting research findings to county and state officials, as well as providing information to policymakers to assist their decisions concerning juveniles.
The successful candidate must have a thorough understanding of various statistical analysis packages, such as SPSS, SAS, or other data management programs; strong analytical and organizational skills; be detail-oriented; able to adhere to deadlines; work collaboratively with colleagues and state and federal agencies; have excellent written and verbal communication skills; and excellent computer skills. The applicant must be willing to work some evenings and weekends.
Minimum education requirements: Ph.D. is Social Science related field (e.g., Psychology, Sociology, Justice Studies).
Minimum experience: 7 or more years experience in quantitative research and program evaluation. Postdoctoral work-related experience in quantitative research and program evaluation is preferred.
