Responsibilities
The role of the Clinical Psychologist at the East Coast Forensic Hospital (ECFH) is diverse, including traditional clinical psychology duties in assessment, treatment, and consultation in addition to forensic-specific clinical work. Psychologists are also expected to be actively involved in program planning and evaluation, ongoing research, clinical supervision, and various administrative and operational activities.
Psychologists conduct group and/or individual psychotherapy involving planning and preparing for the intervention (e.g., collecting patient readings, preparing patient record-keeping materials), delivering the service, and updating clinical records. In addition to psychology-specific interventions, psychologists employed by the ECFH will participate in the psychiatric rehabilitation model adopted by the service including preparing pre-Service Implementation Planning (SIP) documentation and attending SIP meetings.
Consultation to other disciplines and legal proceedings is a frequent occurrence. Most consultations are related to comprehensive psychological assessments and the associated treatment recommendations. An additional component of consultation involves regular testimony at the Criminal Code Review Board hearings and occasionally testifying in other legal venues (e.g., provincial court).
In addition to clinical duties, Psychologists are actively involved in all aspects of the operation of the forensic hospital through participation in key working groups and committees. Psychology frequently holds positions of leadership on these groups.
Psychology, as a discipline in the Capital District Health Authority, is committed to supervision and training. Psychologists employed by the ECFH are also actively involved in the supervision of practicum students and pre-doctoral interns. There are expectations that psychologists present at the didactic internship seminar series, as well as at hospital rounds/education meetings.
Finally, Psychologists have special expertise in the creation of, and ongoing participation in, research. Such projects can include program evaluation, theory development, and/or the collection of empirical data to support research initiatives. As part of these pursuits, psychologists will strive to maintain high standards of quality and relevance and pursue scholarly publication when possible.
Qualifications
· Recognized Ph.D or Psy.D in Clinical Psychology from an accredited university program
· Registered or eligible for registration with the NSBEP
· A minimum of 2 years relevant clinical experience is preferred
· Formal training and clinical experience in adult mental health *Formal training and clinical experience in conducting psychological and cognitive assessment and consultation
· Demonstrated interest and training in the field of forensic psychology (violence risk assessment; therapy and consultation in forensic settings) *Experience and expertise in conducting structured clinical interviews and assessments
· Demonstrated experience and expertise in formulating and implementing treatment plans
· Self directed in his/her practice with an ability to work independently and as an effective member of a multidisciplinary team while dealing with challenging clinical situations and crises
· Demonstrated ability and expertise in developing and presenting education programs to health care professionals and community organizations
· Demonstrated knowledge and skills in program evaluation and clinical research would be an asset
· Experience with the provision of clinical supervision to students from psychology and other mental health disciplines, and willingness to incorporate such responsibilities into work routine
· Capacity and interest to undertake research and program evaluation as part of work responsibilities

Permanent Full-time position; 75 hours bi-weekly

Psychologist PhD: $37.9048 - $44.6297
