JOB SUMMARY:

The Associate Psychologist II/III is responsible for providing direct professional services including conducting group, family, and individual counseling, administration, and interpretation of psychological evaluations of youth at risk of suicide or in need of specialized treatment services. The Associate Psychologist II/III assists in monitoring the group treatment program, conducts special groups, reviews, and monitors special individual and group treatment programs, conducting in-service training, and training group leaders. This position may be required to work overtime or be on call. This is a career ladder series.

REQUIREMENTS:

Associate Psychologist II:

Master's degree in Clinical, Counseling, or Educational Psychology from an accredited college or university and eligible for certification as a Psychological Associate by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists or as a Licensed Professional Counselor by the Texas Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors. Continued employment is based upon successful completion of certification/licensure within two (2) years of the date of employment.

Associate Psychologist III:

Master's degree in Clinical, Counseling, or Educational Psychology from an accredited college or university and certification as a Psychological Associate by the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists or as a Licensed Professional Counselor by the Texas Board of Examiners of Professional Counselors. Two (2) years experience in provision of direct clinical services. Current maintenance of certification/licensure is required for employment.

All diploma(s), GEDs, semester hours, or degree(s) required to meet minimum qualifications must be obtained from an accredited educational institution.

THIS POSITION IS SUBJECT TO MANDATORY PRE-EMPLOYMENT DRUG TESTING AND ANY OFFER OF EMPLOYMENT IS CONTINGENT UPON ACCEPTABLE RESULTS FROM A DRUG SCREEN CONDUCTED FOR THE AGENCY.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1.          Knowledge of psychometry and psychological principles including behavior modification.

2.          Knowledge of diagnostic criteria outlined by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual, Fourth Edition (DSM IV), and the Texas Education Association for the evaluation of serious emotional disturbance.

3.          Knowledge of psychology and related disciplines; and of psychological tests, measurements, and treatment techniques and practices.

4.          Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

5.          Ability to organize and priorities workloads to carry out assigned tasks in a timely manner.

6.          Ability to provide individual and group counseling.

7.          Ability to provide family counseling.

8.          Ability to design and implement special treatment programs for individuals and/or groups with identified special needs.

9.          Skills in evaluation and assessment.

10.     Ability to maintain confidential information.

11.     Skills in training and/or teaching others.

12.     Ability to get along with co-workers.

13.     Computer knowledge and competence, or ability to gain such knowledge.
